"New in Town" by Baruyon

This picture is full of rich, saturated colours, which makes it very lively, warm (despite the depicted weather) and manages to portray a festive mood without being cliched or too obvious (it was the author's winter holiday themed picture).

The big difference between the foreground and the background colours manages to give the picture amazing depth, making it truly feel like both the characters and the viewer are in an actual mountain town.

A very interesting subject in the picture is the dog- he is a dark patch on a dark background, yet is easily told apart from it and recognisable as a separate figure in the foreground due to the use of lighting (there's an actual line separating him from the backdrop) and slight differences of hue. The shine on his coat is one of the points of interest.

The little girl stands out due to her colouring too- she is the only red subject in the picture, but her shading is not elaborate, so she doesn't steal the spotlight from the huge dog, but balances it out and makes the picture warmer.
